Support letters to the House!

Bill H 5887 to rename Victory Day to Peace and Remembrance Day is up for a hearing in the House Special Legislation Committee. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 4:00pm—you can testify in person or send a support letter.  

The bill is sponsored by Representatives Stewart, Morales, Cruz, Tanzi, Sanchez, Kazarian, Alzate, Handy, Kislak, and Potter. Click the link here to read the full bill. 

You can send a support letter via email and/or attend the hearing (click here if you want more info about attending in person or testifying). Emails can arrive after the hearing too but will make the most impact if they arrive by noon the day of the hearing.

What do these letters look like? They can be simple and straight forward with your name, your view of yay or nay, and any other information you'd like to the committee to know. There's a few sentences below to get you started and you can always read the bill to learn more too. Include your town but don't include any information you wouldn't want public as all testimony is published.

I write in enthusiastic support of the proposed replacement of “Victory Day,” the name of the Rhode Island holiday observed on the second Monday of August, with the title “Peace and Remembrance Day.”
