Support letters to the Senate!
Bill S2242 to rename Victory Day to Peace and Remembrance Day is up for a hearing in the Senate Special Legislation and Veterans' Affairs Committee. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, 2024—you can send a support letter by noon on the 27th. Did you send a letter to the House last month for the hearing? You can send the same letter to the Senate!

You can send a support letter via email and/or attend the hearing (click here if you want more info about attending in person or testifying). Emails can arrive after the hearing too but will make the most impact if they arrive by noon on the 27th of March.
What do these letters look like? They can be simple and straight forward with your name, your view of yay or nay, and any other information you'd like to the committee to know. There's a few sentences below to get you started and you can always read the bill to learn more too. Include your town but don't include any information you wouldn't want public as all testimony is published.
Send your letter as a PDF in an email to committee members and clerk, listed below. Want to include your reps? Find your elected officials here! CC me if you like! If you recognize a name from the committee member list lead your letter with "I'm a constituent" or "Committee Member X, I live in your district".

I write in enthusiastic support of the proposed replacement of “Victory Day,” the name of the Rhode Island holiday observed on the second Monday of August, with the title “Peace and Remembrance Day.”
I support the change because to me the holiday has always felt like ....
